What is your elevator speech about North Christian Church?
An elevator speech says that if you stepped into an elevator with someone and decided to share about your congregation with them, what would you share in the very short time that you were in the elevator with them? We have a story to share. If we don’t work on that story together, it is not getting told. If we don’t think about our elevator speech for our congregation, we won’t be ready to give it when those elevator doors open.
As a congregation we have decided to embark on a journey with Sacred Places through an initiative called New Dollars/New Partners. We are one of ten faith communities throughout Indiana who are a part of this first cohort. We are working to think about who we are, so that we can reach out beyond our doors to share “who we are” with our community. We have a Steering Committee that consists of Trudi Ellison-Kendall, Terry & Debby Shaw, Mike McGill, Elizabeth Clark and myself. This group will be attending 4 training sessions over a period of months to equip us to lead the congregation in a series of
conversations. These conversations will generate lots of good and important information – such as; Who we are, What we have, and What we do. These conversations will need all of our voices in one way or another. Some people might decide to participate by being on one of 5 teams to gather information around a particular area of research (Heritage team, Building Resources, Public Value team, Assessment team, and a Communications team). Others might choose to share through the telling of their story with North Christian Church. All of us will be finding ways to answer those three questions: Who are we? What do we have? What do we do?
During this liturgical season of “getting ready,” we find ourselves continuing to reflect and prepare for the direction that God is calling us as a congregation. New Dollars/New Partners is just one way that we will be working on listening for God’s voice. I look forward to hearing your elevator speech and the story that we are preparing to share within this community.
peace,
Cheryl

The Invitation at Christmas is to “Believe Again”
Received on December 13 and 20
The Word from the church is to Believe in a Deeper Hope that moves beyond the “wrappings” of Christmas around us. We proclaim a Hope that brings Good News, Joy and Compassion for all of God’s people. THIS DEEPER HOPE IS MADE REAL IN ALL OF OUR REGIONS AS WE:
- Assist congregations and leaders in claiming their unique mission and ministry, and provide resources and support.
- Call, commission and ordain new pastors, and support and equip all pastors for their ministries.
- Revitalize existing congregations and plan for new congregations.
- Connect Regional Disciples to give witness to ministries of justice, hope and compassion.
- Provide camps, conferences and retreats where children and youth find hope and Christ’s love and a community of faith that embraces “everyone.”
- Make visible the care for all of God’s family through ministries of reconciliation and anti-racism.
- Call and equip passionate leaders for today’s church.
- Provide pastoral care for clergy and congregations.
